Sherman Partners with Area Colleges to Benefit Students

Signed in the Scallon Building Atrium at Sherman College on December 10, 2003, this agreement expands higher educational opportunities and career options while saving students time and money. The program facilitates transfer for students earning an Associate Degree in Science from STC to USCS and Sherman College, where they can earn a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree.

Upon completing their associate's degree from STC, students in this program transfer to USCS for one year. They then earn their bachelor's degree following a successfully completed year of study at Sherman College. Students may continue study at Sherman to complete their Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in an additional two and a half years.

"Students participating in this program will save time and money by completing the final year of their bachelor's degree simultaneously with the first year of the doctorate program at Sherman," says Jerry L. Hardee, Ed.D., president of Sherman College.

This program also takes steps towards strengthening the "College Town" concept initiated by Spartanburg, SC, Mayor William Barnet, III, and the presidents of Spartanburg's six institutions of higher education.

"It is a pleasure to formalize this collaboration with today's agreement," Dr. John Stockwell, chancellor of USCS, noted. "Not only does it underscore the collaboration between these three institutions, but it also signals the growing potential of 'College Town.'"

"Spartanburg Technical College is pleased to be partnering with the University of South Carolina Spartanburg and Sherman College to provide additional higher education opportunities for students in the Upstate," Dr. Dan Terhune, STC president, said. "The Two Plus One Plus One Program provides a new employment track for our students as we continue emphasizing our workforce development mission."
